Tanya Olayla: Why You Should Invade Britain

That was me a few years ago when i decided that i loved writing and maybe one day i could be a journalist for a newspaper. Below i will put my homework, which is a letter to the Roman Emperor, Claudius to persuade him to invade Britain. (Why on Earth we would want him to do that i do not know, but surely Miss knows what she's talking about... right?)

Dear Emperor Claudius,

Hoping you are of good fortune and your health is well.

I believe you should invade Britain because of the different reasons that i have written below.

I believe that the most important reason to invade Britain is there is great wealth there: gold, silver, tin, all the metals you could think of. You could use the metals to make coins, armour, jewellery and to pay your soldiers, this will, of course, make your country stronger and more powerful than any other. This links to the English slaves, because you could use them to make the armour and jewellery . It also links to crops, sheep and good soil because they will all give you good money if you sell them.

In Britain there is lots of sheep, good soil and crops as i said before. The crops can be used as food for your soldiers and the sheep can be used for wool to make clothes and blankets, they can also be used as food for the soldiers and citizens of Rome. There is also very good soil in Britain, which you could use on fields of your own and your people’s gardens. This, also, links to slaves becuase they can cut the crops, sheer the sheep and collect the soil.

One tribe in Britain, the Catuvellauni, crushed the independence of another tribe, the Trinovantes, who are friends of Rome. They are also threatening other tribes. Invading Britain would be a good opportunity to get revenge on the Catuvellauni. Surely you want to defeat these people for defeating some of your own?

Several tribes in Britain have been helping your enemies in Gaul to fight against you. If you go to Britain you can hold them back from attacking your country. If you defeat the British, it may also mean less of a fight if you choose to conquer Gaul. This links to the paragraph before because you can get revenge on both tribes.

I do believe that you want a military victory. This would, for you, be a great advantage. You will be richer, stronger and more powerful than any emperor. People in other country’s will be scared of your power and conquering there country will be easy. Citizens of Rome will love you and worship you like a God. Is this not what you want?

The people of Britain could be used as slaves for you and your people. You could sell them and they could build armour and jewellery for your soldiers and their wives back home. You could use them to make roads, buildings and forts across the whole of Rome. You could use them in the fields to cut crops for food and to become soldiers for your army.

I hope this letter has inspired you to invade Britain, good luck and good wishes.
